What Are Lions
Lions are Friends from all walks of life helping people in their community, in their area, in their country and around the world.
The International Association of Lions Clubs began in 1917 as a dream of Chicago businessman, Melvin Jones. He believed that local business clubs should expand their horizons from purely professional concerns to the betterment of their communities and the world at large.
Today, more than 1.35 million lion’s members in over 45,000 clubs in 206 countries and geographical areas work to advance Melvin Jones dream helping people in their communities, in the areas that they live, in their country and around the world.
In 1925 Helen Keller challenged Lions to be the knights of the blind in the crusade against darkness. Lions accepted the challenge and have been working to help sight challenged individuals ever since.
