King City Lions Club

Many things have changed since the first meeting of the King City Lions, which took place in the former Masonic Lodge (Robertson Lodge, No. 292, King) on May 14, 1952. The official Charter Night would follow soon after on July 9, at The Graystone’s, in neighbouring Aurora, thanks to the support and sponsorship of the Oak Ridges Lions Club. Since those early days, the population of King City has risen from around 650 to over 8,300, making it the largest community in King Township; the number of households in King City has gone from a few hundred to almost 3,000; and, with each passing decade, the agricultural economy that once denied King City, is redefined as a new and highly desired suburban frontier.

But a few things have remained the same

Since 1952 King City Lions have been working to help in our community and around the world. With the help of the community King City Lions have raised over $1.5 million dollars to support new community buildings, hospitals, sports leagues, parks, the blind and hundreds of worthwhile charities.

On December 16th, the King City Lions hosted Skate With Santa at the King City Lions Memorial Arena.  Entrance was free to all, but we asked for a food donation to the food bank.  Each child was given a ticket for a hot dog and hot chocolate.  A great time was had by all and we even had a visit from our very own Santa.

On Tuesday December 12th the King City Lions were at King City Lodge hoping to brighten some of the residents by singing Christmas Carols.  Wanting to make the visit as safe as possible we set up our cover outside the front door.  With the help of Alissa Mortley who is a music teacher at King City Secondary on the Piano we were able to sing carols outside and have the music played inside on speakers.  A great big thank you to Alissa who has braved the cool weather with us for the past three years.

Reverse Advent Calendar Food Drive

For the Month of November, King City Lions along with Nobleton and Schomberg Lions have requested township residents to support the King Township Food Bank buy donating a food item for each day of the month.  On Dec. 2nd, donors can bring their collections or a monetary donation to locations in King City, Nobleton and Schomberg.  The Lions collect the donations and deliver them to the Food Bank.  This year we collected almost $10,000 worth of food plus a substantial amount of money to assist the Food bank in their ever increasing needs.  King City Lions took this opportunity to deliver a cheque for $1500 to the food bank.
